Humbug

Every year I say I'm going to make a Christmas video, and then I never do...but...finally, I got around to doing one.  So here it is.

Humbug from Raven2Angel on Vimeo.
Merry Christmas from Raven2angel. I hope you like the season of good cheer better than the character in this short story.

Made with iclone 3.2

I hope you enjoy.  Merry Christmas :))

In either case, I'd like to wish all my friends, subscribers and readers

House

My NON Entry into the Reallusion Sketchup Contest.

I made this basic model from scratch in Sketchup 6 and prettied it up once it had been imported into Iclone.
I gave up my facebook account months ago and have no plans to go back, but according to Reallusion's rules, enteries must be made on Facebook.

So for that reason, I can't enter the contest.

Cry me a river (R2A audio)

Singing... not for the faint hearted, lol.  Just a bit of fun.  This is just a one take track, it's a bit up and down at the start.  If I had been going to use it for a "proper" video then I would have gone back and changed the vocals on the first and second verse.

A Maudlin Rose Garden

A MAUDLIN ROSE GARDEN

Behind your maudlin eyes
is a hollow place of grief,
where redolent roses
briefly bloom
in dusk's fading light.

Walk softly in the garden
where sweet petals fall,
fragrant with the scent
of memory's perfume.

Like glass,
your eyes will mirror
the roses as they fade;
Creating sorrow's shadow
as darkness fills the crypt.

Twilight tinges sadness
beneath your maudlin gaze,
as you gently tread past roses
that will never bloom again.

Heart Of The City

HEART OF THE CITY

In the heart of the city
there are shadow people
sleeping in doorways
and lost souls bundled-up
in cardboard boxes.

The metropolis has an abundance
of street accommodations
where the fallen,
can stay down and out.
Becoming residents in rags,
never leaving home.

They are the neighbours
who brandish begging cups
to be filled with the bitter wine
of a sour community spirit.
Feeding on left-over scraps
from the kitchens of commerce,
who's fat cats,
never had to hunt for a meal
in the littered back alleyways.

And underneath damp bridges
the home-fires burn.
Sending bright embers into
the empty night, where they
fade and die in the shadows,
reminiscent of the ghosts
who haunt this place.

This is Cardboard City,
and it has no heart.
If it did have one,
it would be concrete cold
and far too hard to break.

Novel - CHOSEN

CHAPTER TWO

4th January 1984

As the speeding Ford Orion careered haphazardly along the deserted country road, its headlights pierced the heavy darkness of the night, revealing the thick coating of powdery ice which covered the hedgerows on each side of the tarmac. It was the early hours of the morning and the temperature had dropped well below freezing.

The driver was aware of how dangerous driving conditions were, especially at the speed he was going. He had already hit a couple of invisible patches of black ice, which had nearly cost him control of the vehicle. The car had swerved across the road into the empty oncoming traffic lane and his heart had thumped madly as dark blue saloon had started to slide to the right. He had come very close to running off the road before swiftly correcting the Orion's deviation and bringing it back under control, shakily steering the car back over the luminous broken white lines that divided the two lanes. But even when the Orion wasn't skidding on ice, its path wavered erratically, because the man behind the wheel was finding it difficult to concentrate. His mind wasn't on the journey, but on what waited at the end of it

Thank God there's no one else using this road tonight, he thought, knowing that his lack of concentration and control could easily be the cause of an accident where he might injure or kill another motorist and their passengers. That was the last thing he wanted to do, therefore he was relieved that he hadn't seen another vehicle since he had taken a side road off the B124 outside the village of Millingford, fourteen miles behind him. The next populated area was twelve miles ahead.

He was glad that he was reasonably far from civilisation. It was the deserted seclusion of this route that had made it so appealing to him. A year ago, the local authority had built a new, more direct road between the two nearest villages. Which left this one, mainly only used by farm vehicles and perhaps the occasional lost tourist. At the best of times, traffic out here was minimal, and at this hour of the morning, it was negligible. Finding a small amount of comfort in that knowledge, he forged on recklessly; rapidly racing the Orion into the middle of nowhere, and nowhere was exactly where the driver wanted to be. But unfortunately, he was still aware that if by some chance he wanted to be somewhere else, that he wouldn’t be able to stop this insane journey. That choice was another matter that was not under his control. Forces much more powerful than he was, were at work, and he wasn’t strong enough to fight them. He'd already tried, and failed.

He had no choice but continue on to his destination, which lay two miles further along the road. At the thought of arriving there, his stomach suddenly lurched and started to tie itself in knots. His tongue went dry and seemed to swell against his teeth. It felt like a layer of sandpaper in his mouth. He trembled as his grip on the steering wheel, already vice like, tightened further, making his hands ache and his knuckles rise into hard white peaks.

He knew there was no going back now… and as he steered the car onwards, a desperate sob of fear escaped his parched mouth. The sound sent a wave of irrepressible shivers through his body; they seemed to emanate from deep within his core, as if he were freezing from the inside out. However, his shivers were nowhere near as chilling as his thoughts. He couldn't stop visualising journey's end, and it terrified him. Don't think about it, he told himself, you're just scaring yourself silly. Nevertheless, he couldn't seem to take his own advice. His destiny waited ahead, and he conceded, that the quicker he met it face to face, the better. He wanted it over and done with. With that revelation forefront in his mind, he increased pressure on the accelerator and began to repeat the mantra he had been saying over and over again since he had hit this lonely stretch of road.

"God forgive me... God forgive me."

He became conscious of how pungently the interior of the car stank of whisky. The open bottle, now devoid of most of its contents, lay on its side on the front passenger seat. What remained of the amber liquid, rolled like a tide to the movement of the Orion. The bottle had been full when he had started the journey, but once he had travelled a few miles outside of Hanson's Green, he had opened it to drink a few mouthfuls. He might have been drinking water for all the effect it had on him and was disappointed that he didn’t feel any calmer, hadn't had his courage boosted, and worst of all, it certainly hadn't dulled his senses. He had prayed that his thoughts would be numbed a little. But even if they had been, he knew he wouldn't have been swayed from following through on this pre-ordained madness. He would still be behind the wheel, dangerously courting the higher numbers of the speedometer. But maybe it would have made the task easier to deal with. Perhaps if he had drank more...

But the whisky had not been intended for that purpose. That's why the car was now permeated with the stink of it. He had poured it over the upholstery, and had included his own seat in the dousing. Beneath him, he could feel where his trousers were wetly sticking to his buttocks and thighs.

He suddenly started to feel nauseated by the overpowering smell. His stomach churned. But it wasn't just the stench of the whisky that made him feel ill; it was thoughts of the reason why he had drenched the interior. Fire... Fuel for the Fire... Not far now…

Fear began to eat away at him again. He was trembling violently and his vision was obstructed by his terrified emotional state. One of his shaking hands briefly left the wheel to wipe the tears from his eyes, and then descended to rub the snot from under his nose. When his hand returned to grip the wheel he ignored the presence of the slimy mucus he had just smeared across it. He wracked out another sob, God forgive me, and then cranked down the driver’s window, allowing the cold night air to whistle into the car. Keeping his eyes on the road, he pushed his head nearer to the gap and drew in a few deep breaths. It was nice, felt good. It was a small pleasure that would last him a lifetime.

The car was closing rapidly on its destination, speeding through the night like a demonic beast with glaring eyes. Advantageously, there was no one around to see it. The Reverend Wilson was glad about that and kept the Orion on course. Only one more mile until he reached a sharp bend in the road. And then the tree...

He hoped there would be fire, he prayed for fire. Then suddenly started to panic. What if there’s no fire? There has to be fire! Has to be... God forgive me...there has to be fire! Please Lord, if you can hear me, please let my sin die in the flames…

A memory from earlier crept into his mind. He heard her mocking voice in his head,

"He doesn't even know you exist..."

Wilson’s aggravated answer burst the silence of the car's interior, he roared with wavering conviction,

"He does!"

Even as he shouted it, he wasn’t sure who he was trying to convince more, his tormentor, or himself.

His persecutor refrained from replying to the outburst, almost as if it didn’t find his comment worthy of argument. A stealthy silence fell, and it was only broken when another sob escaped the driver. He took a brief moment to get his composure back, gulping down a deep breath of air before desperately trying to dispel his own doubts by quietly repeating his last statement.

"He does...I know he does."

The Reverend expected his tormentor to continue baiting him, but the voice, with its dirty work now done, was apparently gone. Unfortunately the memory of the words she had said, and everything that she had told him earlier, wasn’t. It had been only a couple of hours ago, but it was because of the secret that the girl had relayed to him that his life had gone to Hell. One awful secret and a treacherous memory were the reasons he found himself in his current situation.
He remembered the fire.
It had been the scorching of his soul that had been the start of this, and so it was fitting that it would also be the end of it.

Weaving

WEAVING

I spend my time weaving,
alone at the loom.
Trying to make a fabric
to cover up my gloom.
But the more I weave,
the more it unravels,
yet on an on the shuttle goes
on its pointless travels.

My life is made of threads
that seem to fray and break
and mostly I find
I just weave for weavings sake.
I know my fabric is threadbare,
it doesn’t amount to a lot,
but I make the best of what I have
because it’s all I’ve got.

Now what?

What have I been upto lately?...
Well, in truth, not much.
I've taken to playing my sims 3 game again, and have been creating some new custom content for that with Maxis tools. I also discovered a tutorial for getting new mesh items added to the buy and build options, so that has made the game more interesting. I won't be making meshes for the sims 3 tho, that's a bit too complicated for me to do.

The picture above is one of the new patterns I've added. It's called Groovy Panel. If anyone likes it, then they can download from my Sims 3 page on the EA website. Items available for download are listed under My Studio

Movie Making news
None - Now that my part in the Massforce Unity project is completed, I've gone back into retirement and won't be making any more movies. I have had ideas for some which I previously blogged about, but I'm just not inspired to make them myself.
I also still have problems with my video editor which I could solve by upgrading the software to run with Vista, but to be honest, I just don't want to go to the expense of buying something that at the moment, I just don't need or want.

Writing news
A few days ago, I started writing a new screenplay, not exactly sure where the story is going at the moment, therfore it's nowhere near complete, but as I said above, I'm not making movies, so when this script is finished, then it might be one I will offer out to see if any other directors would be interested in making the film. I am a bit of a control freak tho when it comes to my stories and characters...Diva on board...so I guess I would want some kind of involvement in the production. Anyway, don't have to worry about that for now as the screenplay is still in its early stages.

On the home front
Yawn, nothing new. I think I must be the most boring person on earth :) Life through a window is not exciting...and to make matters worse, that window needs cleaning...

till next time

Sims 3 Custom Pattern

Abstract Daisy Pattern

Good news is that the imported texture can also be customised inside the game to get a new look for the same pattern. I've changed it to blue and yellow in the pic above and then saved it as a new pattern. Custom patterns do seem to go a bit darker tho when imported. The original red in the first picture is much brighter.

Fallen Angel - Massforce

Every once in a while, the worlds of men and immortals collide. When that happens, be careful what you wish for.
Made with iclone 3.2

My new iclone video, in association with MassForce Records and The Spotlight Studio.
I might re-edit this video at some point once I sort out my Vista OS/Software problems.

Still, the video was fun to make. I hope you enjoy watching.

The music track, titled Fallen Angel, is from the upcoming album Unity, by Massforce.

Drowning

DROWNING

Man, just take a look at you.
Boy, you're a sorry sight.
You haven't even got a friend
who'll talk to you tonight.
Your woman's gone and left you,
she couldn't stand the strain
of all the hurtful things you said
that only caused her pain.
So you're drowning your sorrows
from an empty glass,
stumbling and falling
while the years roll past.
Your days keep getting longer
but time is running out
Still you don't have a clue
what life is all about.
Man, I've been there.
Been lonely, been blue.
Been lost in the wilderness
that you're going through.
So let me take you by the hand,
I'll help you stand again.
I can't promise sanity
or to take away the pain.
But I can ease the darkness
maybe help you put things right,
so come,
take my hand,
I'll be your friend tonight.

Fallen Angels

This video was to be the first in a series of my poems to be adapted into video this year, but I haven't gotten around to doing any of the others.

The Fallen Angels poem was written back in 2002, and came about when I saw a slightly different version of the following print, (it looked the same except the cherubs had cigs and beers)

I wondered what they might be talking about, and so I wrote the conversation poem.

I have at least three other poems that perhaps would work well with video. They are all character/story based and would require voice-actors, so that is something I might be asking for help with sometime in the future.

Titles under consideration

Superhero - A fun comedy poem - One male over-the-top butch voice.

The Binding Book - A dark tale of temptation and condemnation. Quite a long poem in four parts so I think that one might be difficult to get anyone to VO as it requires a female narration for nearly the entire length. Also there is a shorter male role.

Dancing In Time - Another dark tale, but this one has a theme of lust and longing. This poem would need a male VO to narrate a rather old and weary character who's malevolent nature is quite apparent.

All of the above works are rhyme.
Perhaps at least one of them might get made this year...Watch this space, lol.

GOING FAR

Man on a mission
Going far
Grabs some cash
Steals a car
Picks up friends
Drinking beer
Driving fast
Shows no fear
Country roads
Twists and turns
Engine revs
Rubber burns
Friend says faster
He takes the dare
Speeds to oblivion
But he don’t care
Hits a tree
Wrecks the car
Man on a mission
Didn’t get far.

The Vault of Humanity

At the moment, this is just artwork. I have titled it "The Vault of Humanity"
I added the character for dramatic effect only, so at the moment, this isn't an actual scene from an upcoming video.

The idea was originally a test scene for my collaboration project with The Spotlight Studio and MassForce, but since my computer problems of the weekend, I have had to pull out of taking part until I am sure that the pc is working properly. (Which it does seem to be, apart from my video editor)

I've updated my Flickr Sideshow to include the new artwork.

Don't mess with Grandma

I was relieved when Grandma crashed through the living room window.
Even before the imploded glass had time to settle on the carpet, her skinny arms and legs had gone into action. Moments later, the two ninja assassins who had come to kill me, were dead on the floor.

The Quill

THE QUILL

Unbound air
Unearthly chill
Shakes my hand
Shakes my quill
My hand,
My hand…
Won’t keep still

A scrawl unfurls
Upon the page
Words of love
Words of rage
Down and down
it creeps to woe
Darkly down
In maddening flow

I ache
from this awful chill
My mind desires
To break the quill
But my hand
My hand…
My treacherous hand
Won’t
Keep
Still

WRENCHED

You lingered in a wrenched out room
A fallen marionette
Your rhapsody had lapsed in life

If you go down to the woods today...

I've finally got myself a lonesome little cabin in the woods, with thanks to Zynga and FrontierVille.
But it turns out the forest is not a place for R&R as I seem to spend most of my time clobbering bears, gophers and snakes. And then there are the animals to take care of. Sheesh, they never stop eating!
I'm plum tuckered out, and more than a little worried about one of my chickens, which laid a cannon ball the other day.... Yes, a cannon ball...That can't be good...

If you fancy giving life on the frontier a go, then visit Zynga's site for more details on where you can find the game online.

What else has gotten my attention recently? Let's see...

ESCAPE - iclone musical movie project

I have finally finished the audio track arrangement for Escape. Unfortunately, I doubt that even if I ever manage to complete shooting the remaining scenes, that I will be releasing this video for public viewing. The audio is the problem. I want the movie to have a rock opera sound.
It's only one song, and it's supposed to be a duet. There are also parts of the track that require chorus singers. Um, I had to improvise and do all the vocals myself, and as everyone knows, I'm not a singer, lol, so altho I have the arrangement the way I want it, I think that's as far as I'm going to get with that.

UPDATED - 23rd October
Lyrics Video For Escape

And speaking of singing, my pal Allpoint, recently released a little video to entertain us with his musical vocal talent. "Why I didn't enter TMOA idol"
Pretty fancy boat he's got there too.

Echoes

Echoes from Raven Angel on Vimeo.

The movie, Echoes, is an extract/adaptation from my work in progress novel
"Memories of Eternity" which is my 3rd novel.
Althought I am already a published writer, all 3 books are not, and never will be sent to print as I tend to write the longer stories for my own amusement only.

Normally the genre I write is supernatural horror, but Memories of Eternity is different. It does have elements of the supernatural and horror, but primarily it is in fact a love story which begins at the dawn of time, and follows the two main characters of the movie Echoes. Their names are Raven (male) and Angel (female) so that might give you a clue as to where my user name came from :)

Anyway I hope you enjoy the 12 minute movie above.

Neon Heart

NEON HEART

She fell upon an asphalt dream.
Hard luck sang of love.
The tune, a stolen melody
from a neon heart.

The sign fluttered
on and off,
and
"Follow me", it said.

She glided through the foyer,
addressed a cold caress.
While pools of eyes
awash in smoke
glanced around the bar.

The lonely,
throwing glints of hope,
sat in brooding chairs.
The tables, full of half made lines
brimmed to bruise
the soul.

And there she found a tarnished knight,
bleary eyes cast down.
Swearing oaths and grinding salt
from his steely tears.

She shared an hour
with Hard Luck’s song,
and placed a quest in reach.
Then one dull heart
pulsed with glow
when“Follow me.”she said.

The Cat's Prayer

CAT’S PRAYER

Now I lay me down to sleep,
I pray this cushy life to keep.
I pray for toys that look like mice,
and sofa cushions, soft and nice.
I pray for gourmet kitty snacks,
and someone nice to scratch my back.
For window sills all warm and bright,
For shadows to explore at night.
I pray I’ll always stay real cool,
and keep the secret feline rule;
to never tell a human that…
The world is really ruled by Cats.
